Founded in 2020 to connect, support, and inspire Cypriot healthcare professionals across the United Kingdom — from foundation doctors to leading consultants.

Our story

The relationship between Cyprus and British medicine runs deep. Since the NHS was founded in 1948, Cypriot doctors and scientists have shaped clinical practice, driven medical innovation, and held leading positions across UK healthcare.

Cyprus Medical Society UK was born in 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In collaboration with the Cyprus High Commission in the United Kingdom, a team of Cypriot doctors decided to come together to offer their expertise and support during an unprecedented public health crisis. What began as an act of collective service quickly grew into something far greater — a lasting community with a formal home to connect, to support one another, and to inspire the next generation.

Today we are a growing network of over 200 members across the United Kingdom, united by shared heritage and a commitment to excellence in medicine.

Professor Kypros Nicolaides
Professor Kypros Nicolaides — Patron of Cyprus Medical Society UK, pioneer of fetal medicine at King's College London.

Professor Kypros Nicolaides is one of the world's foremost authorities in fetal medicine, based at King's College London. He pioneered first-trimester screening for chromosomal abnormalities and has transformed antenatal care globally — saving countless lives through his research and clinical innovations.

Following our 2020 inaugural event, we were honoured to welcome Professor Nicolaides as Patron of Cyprus Medical Society UK. President Anastasiades subsequently awarded him the Grand Cross of Makarios III — Cyprus' highest civilian honour — in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to medicine and to Cyprus.
